On March 4, 2025, Williams & Connolly clients Alberstons and SuperValu, represented by a trial team led by Enu Mainigi, Craig Singer, Jennifer Wicht, Grant Geyerman, and Josh Podoll, won a major jury trial victory in the Central District of Illinois in a long-running False Claims Act (“FCA”) case that had travelled to the U.S. Supreme Court and back (U.S. ex rel. Schutte v. Supervalu Inc.). Williams & Connolly joined the case as lead trial counsel after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the FCA scienter standard that the Seventh Circuit and district court had applied, reversed a summary judgment ruling in favor of our clients, and remanded the case for trial. On March 4, 2025, after a 3.5-week trial and only two hours of deliberations, the jury found in favor of our clients. In recognition of this victory, The American Lawyer Litigation Daily named Williams & Connolly’s Albertson’s team its “Litigators of the Week.” In addition, Law360 recognized the Albertson's team among "Legal Lions of the Week."
