Williams & Connolly has been named among Law360’s Health Care Practice Groups of the Year for 2021. The annual series recognizes “the law firms behind the litigation wins and major deals that resonated throughout the legal industry in the past year.” As Law360 notes, William & Connolly’s health care practice “is known for handling any given health care company's toughest litigation matters.” Led by co-chairs Enu Mainigi and Jennifer Wicht, the firm’s Health Care practice has established itself as the team that many large health care companies turn to when faced with high-stakes government investigations and litigation.
Announcing the award, Law360 highlighted the firm’s trial victory on behalf of CVS in Corcoran v. CVS Health Corp., et al., a long-running class action dispute that brought the case before the Ninth Circuit and back, as well as the firm’s appellate victory on behalf of Aetna in a lawsuit brought by the California Medical Association seeking to enjoin Aetna’s policy protecting patients from surprise out-of-network costs arising when in-network physicians use out-of-network surgical facilities. In her interview with Law360, Enu said, “the group's approach to litigation — using a goal-focused strategy to obtain a client's desired outcome — has been in place for years and has served the firm well.” Enu added: “We want to deliver a cohesive strategy for a client on any particular matter. When they hire us, they know they are hiring us to try a case if needed. So we work backwards from [a potential trial]. It's a tried and true practice for us to do it that way.”
Williams & Connolly partners leading the CVS and Aetna matters highlighted by Law360 included: Enu Mainigi, Craig Singer, and Grant Geyerman.
