On September 27, partners John Villa and Charles Davant will make a presentation at the annual Law Firm General Counsel Workshop hosted by Georgetown University Law School, speaking on the topic “Claims Management.” This annual four-day workshop is designed for lawyers around the country who have recently become general counsel or joined the office of general counsel of their respective law firms. John and Charles will address the defense of claims against law firms. This will include organizing the defense of legal malpractice claims and cases, interaction between the law firm and its defense counsel, the treatment of firm lawyers accused of malpractice, duties to notify the client of possible mistakes, preservation of firm privileges, communications with insurance carriers, interaction with the press, high-risk clients and a defense lawyer’s review of law firm engagement letters. The workshop has been a mainstay of the preparation of law firm counsel for many years.
