On October 20, 2022, Partner Charles Davant gave a presentation on “the Unauthorized Practice of Law in the District of Columbia” to staff of the District of Columbia court system. Charles’s presentation focused on recent changes by the D.C. Court of Appeals to the rules governing the provision of legal services in the District by persons who are not D.C. Bar Members.
At Williams & Connolly, Charles focuses his practice on legal malpractice defense, professional responsibility matters, and general civil litigation. In 2017, Charles was appointed by the Board of Judges of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals to serve as Chair of the Court’s Committee on Unauthorized Practice of Law. The Committee publishes formal opinions and investigates complaints against persons who may be engaging in the unauthorized practice of law. Charles has served as a member of the Committee since 2011.
