On June 2, 2022, partners Bill Burke and John Villa lead a panel at the Legal Management Resources General Counsel Roundtable titled “A Defense Lawyer Dissects the Engagement Agreement.” Other roundtable participants included approximately 75 general counsels from some of the largest law firms around the globe.
Bill Burke concentrates his practice on complex commercial litigation, professional liability defense, and investigations. He has successfully represented clients in federal and state courts, arbitrations, and federal regulatory proceedings throughout the United States. In the field of professional liability defense, Bill has defended major law firms in malpractice actions, grand jury investigations, and SEC investigations, has represented individual lawyers in ethics proceedings, and has defended state court judges in lawsuits asserting federal civil rights claims. He also serves as a member of Williams & Connolly’s Ethics Committee.
John K. Villa serves as Co-Chair of the firm’s Financial Services and Banking Practice Group. He focuses on corporate, securities and financial services-related litigation (both civil and criminal) and legal malpractice defense. The Financial Times writes, “John Villa, of Williams & Connolly in Washington, has a reputation for being the lawyer that law firms turn to when in a spot of bother.” The American Lawyer has called him “perhaps the premier [legal] malpractice defense lawyer in the nation.”
