On October 6, 2021, Williams & Connolly and the Association of Corporate Counsel – National Capital Region will host the panel “Ethics Issues for In-House Counsel Managing Third-Party Relationships: Law Firms, Other Vendors, and Joint Venture Relationships.” Williams & Connolly partner Ellen Oberwetter will be joined on the panel by Karina Vollmer, Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer at PAE, Kirsten Braun, Senior Counsel for Global Oncology at AstraZeneca, Tom Roberts, Chief Counsel, Litigation, Boeing Defense, Space & Security, and Danielle Carter, Director of Ethics & Compliance at Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
The panel will address issues that can arise for in-house counsel during the management of outside relationships, including with outside counsel, as well as joint venture relationships. Specifically, the panel will discuss issues such as the appropriateness of joint representations; dealings with current and former employees who may be witnesses in a matter; counsel’s duty of truthfulness; granting conflict waivers; protecting client confidences; the prevention of unlawful conduct; and issue-spotting conflicts with joint venture partners.
