Williams & Connolly served as lead counsel for Google, Samsung, Motorola, and LG in a case in which the plaintiff asserted a patent related to voice control of a computer. The plaintiff claimed to have invented the technology used by the most popular voice interaction smartphone platforms, including “OK, Google” and Siri. The plaintiff accused various smartphones running Google’s Android operating system, including smartphones made by Samsung, Motorola, and LG, of infringing its patent. Williams & Connolly filed a motion to dismiss all of plaintiff’s claims on behalf of all the defendants, and on September 29, 2016, Judge Blackburn of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado ruled in favor of our clients, finding all claims invalid.
The team representing our clients includes Kevin Hardy, Bruce Genderson, Daniel Shanahan, and David Krinsky.
