Williams & Connolly’s Commitment to Pro Bono

March 2025

At Williams & Connolly, pro bono work is a fundamental part of firm culture and attorney development.  For over a decade, the firm has partnered with organizations like the Maryland Public Defender's Office, the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office, and the National Veterans’ Legal Services Program, to serve and give back to the communities in which we live. Williams & Connolly also partners with multiple organizations to handle asylum matters in the United States.

Since December 2024, the firm has achieved a remarkable number of victories on behalf of pro bono clients. These victories include*:

  • Obtaining complete reversal of a murder conviction in the Appellate Court of Maryland;
  • Securing an appellate decision vacating multiple felony convictions in the Sixth Circuit;
  • Upgrading a veteran to a “General Under Honorable Conditions” discharge;
  • Securing permanent resident status in the United States for a long-standing asylum client;
  • Obtaining asylum in the United States for the son of a man who assisted the U.S. government in Afghanistan;
  • Obtaining asylum in the United States for a widow and her five children.
