Williams & Connolly Client Secures Honorable Discharge

July 2024

A Williams & Connolly pro bono client and military veteran achieved a life-changing victory.

In 1995, the Air Force discharged our client for “homosexual acts” under what is called a “general (under honorable conditions)” discharge, which is different from an honorable discharge.  A Williams & Connolly team consisting of partner John McNichols, associate Anna Hrom, and former associate Michael Fishman investigated the case and submitted a package to the Air Force Board of Corrections for Military Records seeking to upgrade the client’s discharge.  On July 19, 2024 our client was upgraded to an honorable discharge, which entitles the client to receive a variety of veterans’ benefits and employment opportunities that would otherwise not be available.
