Williams & Connolly is saddened to share the news of the passing of firm alumnus and Washington Post executive John B. Kuhns. Mr. Kuhns joined Williams & Connolly in 1972, and is remembered as instrumental counsel to firm client The Washington Post in legal matters concerning its coverage of the Watergate scandal. Renowned Washington Post journalist and editor Bob Woodward recalled that Mr. Kuhns “provided not only wise counsel on Watergate but took the time — the unbillable hours — to understand the dimensions of the scandal and the risks accompanying the aggressive, and necessary, news coverage. He was always available for a phone call.” Mr. Kuhns worked under founding partner Edward Bennett Williams during his tenure at the firm.
