Law360 Names Williams & Connolly Among "Media & Entertainment Practice Groups of the Year"

February 2024

Law360 named Williams & Connolly among its "Media & Entertainment Practice Groups of the Year," recognizing that the firm achieved three major U.S. Supreme Court victories affecting the media and entertainment industry, including Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. v. Goldsmith, a closely-followed copyright case involving the “transformative use” doctrine; Gonzalez v. Google, concerning the scope of immunity for interactive computer services under the Communications Decency Act; and Twitter v. Taamneh, where the Court held unanimously that plaintiffs had failed to state a claim against defendants under the Antiterrorism Act (ATA).  Law360 also highlighted the firm’s representation of The Washington Post, which won a libel lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign, as well as the firm’s successful defense on appeal of a large group of media defendants in a defamation lawsuit filed by former coal CEO and U.S. Senate candidate Don Blankenship.

Led by co-chairs Tom Hentoff, Joe Terry, and Steve Fuzesi, Williams & Connolly’s First Amendment & Media practice group is one of the longest-standing practice groups at the firm.  Our attorneys have represented many of the major media, film, broadcasting, and technology companies, and have been involved in many of the country’s major libel and copyright infringement cases over the past fifty years.
