Williams & Connolly is pleased to announce the appointment of partner Edward “Ted” Bennett as Co-Chair of the firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation practice. Ted is joining Dane Butswinkas and Bob Van Kirk as Co-Chairs. “Ted is an impressive trial lawyer, and his breadth of experience makes him a terrific addition to the practice leadership,” said Hack Wiegmann, Williams & Connolly Managing Partner.
Operating from a single Washington, D.C. office, our commercial litigation practice is national and international in scope. We are called on to handle the most complex commercial litigation cases facing businesses in any industry, with a particular emphasis on preparing and taking cases to trial. Consistently ranked as one of the top commercial litigation practices in the country by Chambers USA, Legal 500, and Benchmark Litigation, Williams & Connolly boasts numerous attorneys ranked among the top 100 trial lawyers in the nation. Moreover, the firm’s work has continued unabated despite the particular challenges faced by litigators in light of the current pandemic as our attorneys have handled trials, arbitrations and evidentiary hearings both in person and remotely, including the first ever remote telephonic oral argument before the U.S. Supreme Court in its history. In addition to our traditional docket of contract, trade secret, regulatory, trade practice, and other commercial disputes, our recent cases have involved an array of pandemic-related litigation, including disputes over scuttled commercial transactions, claims against major Wall Street financial institution arising out of loans to small businesses under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (“CARES”) Act, and consumer and governmental complaints and investigations relating to alleged price gouging for pandemic-related materials.
Ted’s practice focuses on trial work and complex civil litigation, principally in matters relating to commercial disputes, corporate governance, banking and financial services, antitrust and trade practices, patents, trade secrets and other intellectual property. In recent years, he has been lead trial counsel in civil and criminal jury trials and arbitrations, and has represented national banks, major accounting firms, Fortune 50 companies, multinational chemical and technology companies, and individuals in federal and state courts across the country, in domestic and international arbitrations, and in CFPB, SEC, and other government investigations.
