Williams & Connolly was one of eleven firms nationally to be recognized in The American Lawyer’s “Litigation Department of the Year” contest in the Honorable Mention category. This biennial feature highlights firms that “handled groundbreaking cases, got results that made headlines, and saved clients from uncertain futures.” The American Lawyer recognized Williams & Connolly for several major victories on behalf of its clients, including a defense win for former Bolivian President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada and his defense minister in the first case in which a former head-of-state was tried in a United States court; the firm’s complete victory on behalf of The Carlyle Group after a six-month trial on a $2 billion action in the Royal Court of Guernsey; and multiple victories before the U.S. Supreme Court.
