On May 17, 2019, the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund (LDF) celebrated the 65th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Brown v. Board of Education. At the celebration, LDF presented its Distinguished Alumni Award to Williams & Connolly Senior Counsel David Kendall. David was an Assistant Counsel at LDF from 1973 to 1978, handling some of its most significant death penalty cases, including arguing the landmark case of Coker v. Georgia, 433 U.S. 584 (1977), in which the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the imposition of the death penalty for the crime of rape. David has served on the LDF board from 1983 to the present.
