Williams & Connolly has been named to The National Law Journal’s 2018 “Appellate Hot List.” The special report features 22 honorees, which the NLJ calls “an elite group of lawyers and law firms that posted hard-fought wins at the Supreme Court or in federal circuit courts.” The profile features highlights the firm’s victories in the U.S. Supreme Court and federal court.
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled in favor of Williams & Connolly client Digital Realty Trust, Inc., narrowing the definition of the term “whistleblower.” As a result of the Court’s decision, employees who allege securities law violations by their employers must first take their allegations to the SEC to invoke the Dodd-Frank Act’s anti-retaliation provision. The firm also scored a Second Circuit victory in Litvak v. United States, the closely watched securities-fraud case involving a bond trader who was convicted for misrepresenting the profits on sales to counterparties.
