During the week of January 15, 1967, Edward Bennett Williams joined with his former student at Georgetown, Paul Connolly, and Jeremiah Collins to form Williams & Connolly. The firm set out to practice law the way its partners lived life - passionately. Williams called it "contest living," embracing the competition, with a relentless focus on fighting to win.
For 50 years, we have continued our founders' competitive spirit and relentless focus on excellence in the courtroom and serving our clients’ interests.
Over the decades, our attorneys have worked with many of the world’s most dynamic corporations, professional firms, governments, and individuals. We’ve represented U.S. presidents, vice presidents, senators, celebrities, professional athletes, and foreign dignitaries. We’ve handled some of the highest profile and most complex civil, criminal, and administrative cases across the nation and around the globe for leading corporations in banking and finance, healthcare, pharmaceutical, media, technology, consumer products, and many other industries. More than half of the AmLaw 100 law firms and the nation’s top accounting firms have trusted Williams & Connolly with their professional liability matters, earning us the reputation as the firm other firms “turn to when they’re in trouble.”
Despite an increasingly complex and challenging business and litigation environment, our steadfast focus on trial excellence and delivering results continues to prove effective. It has sustained us through the years and has been reaffirmed many times as the core attribute of the firm. It has been – and continues to be – our privilege to uphold our focus so you can focus on achieving your goals and what matters most to you.
