Ian Swenson’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation, criminal defense, and high-stakes appeals. Ian has represented clients before government agencies, state and federal trial courts, and appellate courts including the Supreme Court of the United States. Ian joined Williams & Connolly in 2022 after serving as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard J. Sullivan, United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the Honorable Colm F. Connolly, United States District Court for the District of Delaware. Ian is a native of Austin, Texas.
Though all cases vary and none is predictive, Ian’s experience includes:
- Counsel for two Afghan refugees seeking asylum. Both clients were granted asylum.
- Counsel for the respondent in Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico v. Centro de Periodismo Investigativo, Inc., 598 U.S. 339 (2023).
- Counsel for Pfizer in ANDA litigation related to Pfizer’s drug Inlyta® (axitinib).
- Counsel for Genentech in connection with inter partes review proceedings against patents related to Actemra® (tocilizumab).
